Objective Statement

At this stage, I am still considering the web to be an integrated information source, and is not HTML-specific. Furthermore, some of the features which follow may not even be implemented within the web, as they are sufficiently catered for within the existing 1st Class system.

Objectives

Through analysing the purpose statement and audience information, the ICS web will have the following features; (the header is a link to the corresponding solution under 'Web Specification').

• The ability to find information about any degree programme, which would include;
  • the degree title
  • a description including the degree content
  • a list of all the modules contained within the degree
  • the recipient for questions
  • entrance requirements for this programme
  • past projects or research done under this degree
• The ability to find information about any course module, which would include;
  • a description
  • the teacher and/or a recipient for questions
  • a timetable
  • a noticeboard for this module
  • web-based components of this module
  • a calendar of events for this module
  • past exam papers
  • links to projects done within this module
• Information on how to contact the department, including
  • telephone number
  • fax number
  • email address
  • postal address
  • directions, which may make use of a map
  • who to direct questions to
• The ability to access to past and current research material
• The facility to search for a member of the department and find
  • their homepage if available
  • their email address
  • their telephone extension if available
• A general noticeboard
• A general calendar of events
• Various internal and external news reports
• Job information and industrial placements
• Erasmus exchange information, including;
  • a description of the Erasmus exchange programme
  • places available for students
  • links to the host university's appropriate department
  • a recipient for questions
• The ability to explore the Internet, including the following features;
  • FAQ's about Internet topics
  • search engines
  • how to author WWW pages
  • how students can publish their own WWW pages
• Life at the department, for the benefit of potential students, which would include;
  • photographs of the department
  • descriptions of life at university and life in Lund
• ICS web index. This may be automatically generated, and would include
  • the title of each web page
  • a link to each web page
