Page Layout

This section is concerned with specifying the 'look and feel' of the web, and creating a generic page.

I have decided to split the page into three sections;

• Header, containing the document title, and an icon linking back to the ICS homepage.
• Page information, which contains the body and links of the page and will vary from page to page.
• Footer, containing the email address of the web maintainer. I have decided to omit the revision date, as this information will only be of use to the web maintainers themselves, and is easily accessible by viewing the file dates on the web server itself.

Theme

It is at this point that a general 'theme' is decided upon, which dictates use of backdrops, icons, colour and overall 'visage'. The theme is very important as it may be the only view certain people will ever have of the ICS department, and will completely determine their first impression.

The Department of Informatics, is a modern, professional and sophisticated organisation, centred primarily on the use of computers. This is reflected in the theme I have chosen, which is modern and 'computeristic'. The existing theme seemed to be already based on this idea, but, as I mentioned in the introduction, lacked a little overall consistency.

The already existent ICS backdrop and ICS logo, I believe, perfectly compliments this theme, which I will supplement with new icons and page structure.
